Heading up

I ranked up to Adept II. Considering I got to Adept I at the start of February and immediately lost all the points retained from promotion, this is a good pace for getting Expert by the end of the year. It’s funny thinking about how I was stuck at the lower rank Novice for three years because I only decided to play seriously now.

For context, a typical first place game gives about 50 points. I would need about 8 first places in a row. And this game can be brutal. An accidental deal-in or a failed push can put you in 4th. Then, luck will ordain that everyone else will decide to win quick or that you won’t get any workable hands at all. I know since that’s exactly what happened to the two 4th placements in my recent (luckily very strong) 1st places.

All in all, this has been very fun. It’s nice to learn and apply. Both the metagame and the macro. I wrote (but have now deleted) about not playing while feeling tired or sleep deprived. I’d attribute about 50% of the recent success to following my new self-imposed rule.

It’s also nice spotting a bad player and being able to laugh at them.

Is there a lesson to be learned here? I guess? Set your own boundaries. If you don’t have a cerebral hobby, consider picking up one. And believe truly in what you believe in. Don’t half ass it. However, back it up with some reason and logic.

Good one. I used to play strategic games like Commandoes and Age of Empires (I-III). Had a laugh for bad players and it was a good time ever 😄
